HISTORY

Faraja Orpahange Children's Home was established by Faraja Maliaki and is a non-governmental organization with the following registration number: 00NGO/08378. During inspiration and a strong feeling in his heart, he decided to open an orphanage with the main objective of supporting children who come from difficult situations in the villages of Arusha.

The orphanage started in 2008 with small tools and resources, but has since developed enormously and faced many different challenges along the way. Our facilities currently consist of a kitchen, storage rooms, two classrooms, a dining room and 3 large rooms with bunk beds. We also have a small playground.

We support and care for children who come from difficult situations regardless of their gender, tribe and religion. The children are currently between 10 months and 18 years old. Some children live with their parents/guardians but spend the day with us and some of the children live with us permanently. Regardless of where they live, we provide them with the best we can with food, shelter, clothing and love.

We know the value of education and therefore we know how important it is to attend a qualified school to ensure a good future for every child. That's why we are always looking for godparents for our little ones. For more information about sponsorship, click here

WORK TEAM

The work team is made up of a passionate and committed group of individuals who share a common goal: Improve the lives of children in vulnerable situations. Made up of the director of the orphanage, the coordinator, the caregivers and of course our volunteers, all of whom are the backbone of the home.

FARAJA MALIAKI

He is the director of the orphanage and is also a pastor and preacher at the Jesus Light International Church. Her dream has always been to help orphans and children from vulnerable families so that they have better opportunities. She started with just 15 children, even before officially registering with the government, and at that time she lived with the children in her own home. Finally, in 2008, the orphanage was officially registered as a children's home. Since then, more than 200 children have benefited from their dreams becoming a reality.

AYUBU MOLLEL

He is the orphanage coordinator, a young 30-year-old Maasai with an inspiring story of resilience. Raised in vulnerable communities and after losing his father at the age of 4, his mother sought help at a nearby church due to financial difficulties. After passing through several government schools, he finally received sponsorship to attend a private school. With determination, she graduated in 2022 with a master's degree in human resources management.

Today, his personal experience drives him to care for and guide children in similar situations at the ''Faraja'' home. His story is an example of how education and perseverance can change lives.

GRACE OMBELA

One of our caregivers, who resides in the orphanage and is responsible for ensuring that everything is in order and under control for the well-being of the children. With a special bond and unwavering dedication, this caregiver is affectionately known as "Dada" to the children and all of us here. In Swahili, “Dada” means “sister,” a title that reflects the deep connection and commitment she has to the children she cares for. Her name not only represents a role in the management of the orphanage, but also symbolizes the intimacy and warmth with which she lives with the children, making each one feel loved and protected, as if they were part of her own family. Your presence and care are essential to creating a safe, homelike environment where children can grow and thrive.

IRENE AND NAIARA

Two social educators from Pamplona who one day decided to venture out and embark on a transformative experience in Tanzania. For a full month, they lived the experience of working in this orphanage, doing their bit to improve the lives of the children who live there.

The experience was so rewarding and enriching that, together with Ayubu, they decided to start this project.

Its objective is to collaborate in improving the process for both the children and the orphanage. That is why they created this space to find volunteers who, like us, wish to contribute their time and effort to this noble cause.
